There have been four more nominees for the Bendigo Bank Rising Star Award which brings the total to fifteen nominees so far in 2016.
In the Round 10 match between Palmerston and Swampdogs at Fred’s Pass Reserve the Crocs started Jonathan Briskin in the second row while the home side gave Harry Berns a run on the wing.
Berns is studying intestate and had previously played off the bench in Round 2.
Douglas Bush finally got a start in the Darwin Dragon’s First Grade in the high pressure Round 11 clash against South Darwin after eight appearances off the bench.
On the same day Brandon Thomson bagged two tries on debut for University playing on the wing against Swampdogs.
The award recognises young players who are eligible to play in an Under 18 Competition who are selected and start in a First Grade match for the first time.
Players previously nominated this season are; Thomas O’Connor (South Darwin), Jonas Niki (Dragons) Dean Tinning, Brodie Morcom, Joseph Cameron (Swampdogs) Ryan Graham, Luke Morgan-Doherty (Casuarina) Liam Bilston, Jimi Fitzgerald (Palmerston) Hone Edwards, Hugh Harbeck (University).
Earlier this year The NT Rugby Union announced the annual Bendigo Bank Rising Star would be the recipient of the Tawera Kerr-Barlow Medal in recognition of the Palmerston Junior’s rise from an Under 6 player with the Crocs to World Cup winner with the All Blacks.
This year’s winner will be announced at the Eric Johnston Medal Presentation Dinner on August 7th.
