Northern Territory Rugby Union (NTRU) is thrilled to announce that the Hottest 7’s in the World will return to Darwin over the Australia Day long weekend, 23–25 January 2026. This iconic tournament continues to be one of the Territory’s most enduring rugby events, attracting teams from across Australia, the Pacific, Asia, and beyond.
Since its inception in 1989 (originally the “Territory 7s”), the Hottest 7’s has grown into an international rugby festival. With NTRU celebrating its 50th season, the 2026 timing will offer a spectacular celebration of sport, community, and culture.
This event is part of Darwin’s rugby DNA, and securing the resources to deliver it again allows us to build on its legacy, attract more elite and grassroots teams, and showcase the Northern Territory on the national and international rugby stage.
The 2026 tournament will feature divisions for open men’s and women’s teams, as well as youth and age-grade competitions, providing opportunities for players at all levels to compete in a festival-style rugby environment.
Beyond the on-field action, the Hottest 7’s promises a vibrant atmosphere with entertainment, food, team socials, and community activations. The event is about more than rugby, it’s a showcase of Top End hospitality and community spirit.
