History
The pride of the Northern Territory.

The rich and proud history of the Northern Territory Rugby Union began in 1976.

The first official competition game was played on October 2nd, 1976 between the South Darwin Rabbitohs and RSL Dragons at Alawa Oval in Darwin’s northern suburbs. South Darwin won that game but Waratahs went on to become the inaugural premiers of the season, defeating Souths 33-10 in the Grand Final on March 3rd, 1977.

In 2001, Norm Cramp wrote a short history of Rugby in the Northern Territory, Rah-Rah in the Never-Never.
